Storage for Employees and Students and Their Use
If you need to store research data within a project in the data repository (e.g., Open Access articles or if you need a DOI), please proceed to the UVIS website.
Data Categorization:
-
find here (in Czech)
Data Types:
- Files and Documents
- Photos and Videos
- Databases
- Archiving and Infrequently Used Data
- Backups
Maximum File Size:
Defined as the size of files you can upload, does not indicate the storage space available.
- Small Files: Small files typically have sizes in the range of kilobytes to a few megabytes. Examples include text documents, presentations, or small images.
- Medium-sized Files: Medium-sized files typically range from a few megabytes to tens of gigabytes. Examples include videos in standard resolution, extensive documents with images, or large data tables.
- Large Files: Large files usually have sizes in the range of tens of gigabytes to terabytes. Examples include high-resolution videos, extensive datasets, or disk images.
- Very Large Files: Very large files represent extremely voluminous data, reaching sizes of terabytes to petabytes. Examples include extensive datasets from scientific experiments, high-resolution video recordings, or genetic sequences.
Physical Storage
Data Category:
PUBLIC DATA.
For
other types, we strongly recommend
encryption.
Data Types: Archiving and infrequently used data,
backups.
Maximum File Size: Large
files.
Storage Capacity: Depends on the purchased medium.
Description and Recommendations: For storing "live" data
(=
continuously updated) NOT RECOMMENDED.
They can be used for (off-line) secondary storage of backup copies of data,
which
are primarily stored elsewhere. Easily susceptible to physical
damage and
wear, they have a limited lifespan.
Data Sharing: It is difficult to share data with others
- possible
only "hand to hand". Therefore, we recommend using
network or cloud storage
of the university instead.
Backup: Responsibility lies with the user. It is
advisable to have
data backed up in another location as well.
Sensitive Data: Do not store sensitive data.
Data Category: PUBLIC,
INTERNAL, DISCRETE and
SENSITIVE
DATA.
Data Types: Files and documents, databases.
Maximum File Size: Large files.
Storage Capacity: The size of the storage depends on the
financial
possibilities of the research/project.
Description and Recommendations: The network disk
server
(in case the entire server) is physically located where you request (at OIT
or
faculty). Storage can also be provided in the form of virtual space
on already existing units. DIT provides
professional consultations before acquisition, where your
requirements and funding are discussed. OIT can either directly manage
the server disks or
train a selected employee to manage them.
This is an DIT service, so
this solution is paid!
Acquiring and operating your own server is expensive to
manage.
We recommend
therefore using
DIT services.
Usage Conditions: Official request and its approval
after
consultation. In the case of your own server (as a last resort), the space
for
placing the server must meet the manufacturer's technical parameters.
Data Sharing: Access to persons (even outside the university) is
defined during consultation, set up by OIT.
Backup: Arranged by DIT, unless otherwise agreed.
Sensitive Data: If only connected to the MENDELU network,
increased security
is not needed even
for
sensitive data.
Instructions and Contact:
- Use DIT services: Official request to OIT and request through Helpdesk.
- Remote connection: Through VPN (more information during consultation with DIT).
