Theses and Odevzdej Systems
Since the beginning of the academic year 2014 / 2015, the possibility of comparing all final and continuously submitted works with the extensive databases of the Theses and Odevzdej systems has been implemented into the University Information System.
All submitted final theses will be automatically compared and evaluated by the plagiarism detection system Theses, while thesis supervisors have a Protocol with the comparison results available in UIS. Works are evaluated by the percentage of similarity in the same UIS application as before. (More information about the Theses system can be found at http://theses.cz.)
For continuous assignments submitted through Odevzdárny in UIS, the option of comparison with other files uploaded to the Odevzdej system database is now available. By checking this option when creating an Odevzdárna, submitted files will be evaluated by percentage similarity in the same way as final theses. (More information about the Odevzdej system can be found at http://odevzdej.cz.)
News (May 2026): The Theses.cz system has been expanded with advanced tools for searching similarities. A clear comparison of two documents side by side is now available, along with interactive linear and 2D similarity maps, the possibility to set search sensitivity, and the exclusion of irrelevant sources from comparisons.
Details about the functionality and use of these tools can be found in the Theses.cz system help: Similarity Search – Help .
FAQ
From the student's point of view, the newly visible information is the percentage of detected similarity and the supervisor's decision regarding the originality of the final thesis. Teachers see a new option in Odevzdárny. The final thesis supervisor has access to a Protocol of detected similarities in the thesis and has the obligation to decide whether the suspicious work is original or plagiarism. Final and seminar papers are uploaded in the same way as before, they are only evaluated elsewhere.
The evaluation itself is carried out using complex algorithms that compare individual words and parts of text, as well as the stylistic form of texts and a kind of "idea" hidden in the text. Therefore, if a student rewrites a work "in their own words", the system should also identify this similarity.
Access to Theses has not been created for UIS users. For access via eduID.cz click here .
The speed of the check depends on the period when the work is submitted. During the time when final theses are submitted in large numbers at all faculties, the evaluation may be slower. In any case, the duration of the check should be in the order of hours or days, not weeks.
The check is performed on the complete submitted work. It is compared with all works that have been uploaded to Theses and Odevzdej so far, as well as with sources available on the internet. If Theses is used by a university that does not publish its works, these non-public works are also included in the comparison.
Since seminar and final theses are submitted through UIS, where the comparison results are also presented, it is not possible to limit the comparison area.
Yes, Theses and Odevzdej are able to work with common archive formats (zip, rar, etc.).
The evaluation of source codes is carried out in exactly the same way as with ordinary texts. Due to the content similarity of some codes, an incorrect plagiarism evaluation may occur; however, the final decision is always made by the teacher.
